Alternative Provision
Stevenage Education Support Centre will offer a Vocational Programme of alternative provision for Key Stage 4 students in Stevenage Secondary Schools.
This alternative provision educational package will be offered primarily to Stevenage Secondary Schools, but will be offered to schools outside of the Stevenage area, if places are available.
Vocational Programme at SESC on a Wednesday
Students will be provided with a therapeutic approach in all lessons where mentoring and a nurturing learning environment is consistent. SESC staff have experience in working with students that have social, emotional and behavioral difficulties, using strategies to achieve the best outcomes for every student.
Students will be taught in small groups of no more than five students with a teacher and teaching assistant. Each lesson duration is 50 minutes, thus 1 block being 100 minutes of teaching and learning. The Vocational students can select two blocks from the below and these will be delivered in the morning
Block 1: 9:00am – 10:40am
Block 2: 10:50 – 12:30

- Catering (Level 1 & 2)
- Award in Sport ( Level 1 & 2)
- Construction (Level 1 & 2)
- Hair and Beauty (Level 1 & 2)

College Programme
- This year we are embarking in offering students a whole day at college in a vocational area. These courses are with partners who hold the same values as the center and we will work in partnership to ensure a quality education is offered to those enrolled for their schools. Transport and TA support will be provided by the center.
- Catering – HRC Turnford Campus – Monday
- Construction *Stevenage Schools* – HRC Turnford Campus – Tuesday
- Construction *North Herts Schools* – NHC Stevenage – Thursday
- Motor Mechanics – HRC Turnford Campus – Thursday
- Hair and Beauty – NHC Hitchin – Friday
- Animal Care – Church Farm Ardley – Tuesday ‘NCON Award in Animal Care’. This course would be aimed at students with additional needs, or an EHCP, that work best in small groups and benefit from an inclusive, calm and engaging environment. Students will be working with animals and the land. The cost of this course if it runs will be £2500
**Please note the ‘Animal Care course’ has yet to be confirmed and is dependent on referral numbers. We are seeking expression of interest for this course and will be confirmed week commencing 11th September

Year 8 Satellite Programme (September 2023)
The Satellite programme aimed at Year 8 students. This will run at the Centre or where indicated the Football Club from 12:50 until 14:15 with a focus on vocational learning. The student can undertake a maximum of 2 afternoon sessions with us within their targeted year group. Each programme will run for a term and the reset in terms of content and enrolments. .

The Satellite programme aimed at Year 9 students. This will run at the Centre or where indicated the Football Club from 12:50 until 14:15 with a focus on vocational learning. Each programme will run for a term and then reset in terms of content and enrolments.
