Key Stage 4

At our KS4 Centre we offer one and two year programme for Year 10 and 11 students, who suit a more personalised learning approach. We are able to offer a range of academic and vocational courses complemented with work experience and offsite learning opportunities at local colleges to prepare students for their next steps.  Our work recognises the individual young people come from very different starting points and we are committed to maximising opportunities and choices by providing an outstanding broad and balanced curriculum offer.

Our core purpose is to make our students feel safe and secure and to re-engage in their learning whilst improving their attitudes, social skills, behaviour and attendance. We believe that it is vital to prepare students for the next steps whether that be a mainstream school, college, apprenticeship or the world of work.

Our success is in securing all of our learners qualifications relevant to their aspirations, needs and interests. Each learner leaves with GCSE outcomes in English, Maths, Science together with a bespoke set of academic and vocational qualifications, personal development programmes, independent living and work experience.

Vocational Programme – Wednesday

Stevenage Education Support Centre will offer a Vocational Programme of alternative provision for Key Stage 4 students in Stevenage Secondary Schools. This alternative provision educational package will be offered primarily to Stevenage Secondary Schools, but will be offered to schools outside of the Stevenage area, if places are available.

Students will be provided with a therapeutic approach in all lessons where mentoring and a nurturing learning environment is consistent. SESC staff have experience in working with students that have social, emotional and behavioral difficulties, using strategies to achieve the best outcomes for every student.  Students will be taught in small groups of no more than five students with a teacher and teaching assistant. Each lesson duration is 50 minutes, thus 1 block being 100 minutes of teaching and learning.

The options for this are:

  • Home Cooking (Level 1 & 2)
  • Award in Sport ( Level 1 & 2)
  • Construction (Level 1 & 2)
  • Hair and Beauty (Level 1 & 2)

College Provision

To support our schools we have created working relationships with local college to offer Personal Learning Opportunities in vocational areas for a full day to supplement them being successful in their mainstream school and to allow them to experience a college area or trade they have aspirations for their next steps to be in once GCSEs are completed . These courses are with partners who hold the same values as the Centre and we will work in partnership to ensure a quality education is offered to those enrolled for their schools. Transport and TA support will be provided by the Centre.
