At Stevenage Education Support Centre, we offer Key Stage 3 students the opportunity to follow a similar academic curriculum to the Stevenage mainstream schools with an emphasis on vocational options such as Construction, Hospitality and Catering, Hair and Beauty, Art and Sport.
Timetables are personalised and individual to the student’s needs, interests and aspirations. It will include a range of academic and vocational subjects through GCSE, BTEC, City and Guilds, Cambridge National and where appropriate Functional Skills examinations alongside Employability Skills via weekly Works Experience. Along with this students work with a wide variety of professionals to support therapeutic needs along with positive well-being to ensure a successful transition to their next steps in Year 12.
Key Stage 4 students will also participate in Extended Work Experience placements one day a week. Through partnership working with local businesses and colleges, students will prepare themselves for work and training opportunities in post-16.
Regular individual and group career advice and guidance will support the students to make informed choices regarding the career path they wish to follow. This is in line with the Gatsby Benchmarks and delivered through curriculum-based learning and a range of opportunities including Get Ready for Work Days and Apprenticeship Fairs.
Every KS4 student is offered weekly mentoring and support advice and guidance along with a robust and comprehensive programme of PSHE addressing relationships, the wider world and healthy relationships. Expectations are high and every student will be expected to engage and work to their full potential to achieve the best outcome preparing them for work and adult life.
Referrals for the KS4 Centre will be through Stevenage schools and each referral will be considered by the Inclusion Panel made up of a multi-agency group of staff from schools, Local Authority, Stevenage ESC and YC Herts.
